Breathing hard and sweaty

....and yet no nudity involved. Sigh.

Have I mentioned that I hate exercising?

Clearly, by looking at me, it's not something I've ever made a habit of doing. I've never been into sports...playing them, that is....and I once paid monthly membership to a gym for a year and a half and never walked through their doors.

But I am finally accepting the fact that I have to incorporate movement into my current weight loss plan.

And I am NOT happy about it.

Everyone says once you get into it, you'll learn to love it. Frankly I don't see that happening. But I'm willing to give it a shot.

So I'm headed to the gym. Hopefully I will find a class or two that appeal to me, as I think I will do better in a group setting than just being left to my own devices.

If you have paid attention to my weight loss ticker, I am trying to lose 75 lbs. When you need to lose an Olsen like that, there's bound to be some flabby skin leftover, so I really need to firm up the muscles underneath the fat on my way down the scale.

:::Wonder how long I can continue putting off going to the gym this morning by writing this blog post?::::

So tell me, do you work out? If so, what do you do to keep yourself entertained? Did you hate it at first and learned to love it? Or do you have to force yourself to do it?

Oooh looky!!!!

I hit the 20 lb. mark this morning! Yay me!!!

By the way, look how big my tomato plants are!!! Remember, I'm 5'8" so these are pretty tall. And this was earlier in the week....I looked at them last night and they were up to my shoulders! They're ridiculous!

Girl I am right there with you on sweating...if I am sweating it best be some good sex kwim..lolol
BUT, here is me and my story (rofl) the past year. I joined a gym and have done that many times before and never went. BUT this time I started going. I went faithfully, 5-6, sometimes even 7 days a week. The first two, two in a half weeks were major suck ass hard, really wanted to throw in the towel and say screw this I will stay fat. Then about week 3 I noticed a change. I had a bit more pep in my step, much more energy, could do the cross trainer 45 mins without dying, even was able to start running on the treadmill. That in itself kept me motivated because for the first 12 weeks I didn't lose ONE friggin pound. Heck I think it was about week 16 when I finally lost 3 lbs. I was told because I was not only doing cardio, but weights that I was building muscle. I then backed off on the weights and stuck with cardio only. It was then that I started losing easier. The key to me was to mix it up, don't get bored with one machine. Do say the elliptical one day with the treadmill, the cross trainer with the treadmill, bicycle and treadmill. I always started off or ended up with the treadmill, always did at least 30 mins, if not 45-60 mins on the treadmill. My gym has tv's at all treadmills, so you can watch what you want and you just hook up your headphones (I use my ipod ones). Or ifyou can bring an ipod and listen to music. I don't like to talk to others when I am working out, some do but its not for me. Make sure you have LOTS and LOTS of water and bring a towel. I put my towel over the part of the machine that shows my time, speed, how many miles, reps I have gone because it seems to make time go slower if I am constantly staring at it.
I have not been to the gym in two months due to the health issues I am having right now iwth my kidneys. I can totally tell you how ucky I feel and really notice the difference. I have toned up some and when I can hopefully start back in the next few weeks I will get back on the wagon. While I never really LOVE going, I always tell myself, force myself, talk to myself into going and have always been happy I have. It's not something I enjoy trust me, but the way it makes me feel energy wise has really made a different. GLGLGLG you can do it, I will be your cheerleader

A few years ago Joe and I joined the gym. I started out lifing 70 pounds with my legs (not arms) Three months later I was lifting 190 pounds (no lie) and I was BUFF. I hated going, but loved the feeling in my body when I left. I never did "look forward" to it. I only dropped 10 pounds, because I was gaining muscle.

Once I stopped, I returned to my usual self so damn quickly that I now see NO reason to put myself through that shit. It has to be a LIFELONG change, or you'll lose it all in the blink of an eye, or a stretch of the flu.

If being healthy is such a good thing for your body, why doesn't the body hang onto it like it does the fat?......

I do a workout at home. I have a step bench. I step up and down sometimes listening to music but most often I watch a TV program that I've got on TIVO or something good on TV and I step while watching something I enjoy. It makes the time seem to go faster. Also I have 5, 8 and 10 lb weights and do an upper and lower body routine a few days a week. No more wiggle under arms.

I am right there with you. Hate to work out, hate to walk....that is why I am in the shape I am in. I need to get my act in gear, that is for sure.

Way to go Julie.....Keep it up.

I knew you'd get there! Good for you, Julie!!!

I hate working out as well and I have to admit that I haven't felt like it so I don't. In the meantime, I have no excuse other than that.

Find something that you enjoy doing while still being able to firm up. Maybe you can take up some form of dance. I hear zumba is good for you.

I don't like exercising either, but I'm STARTING to realize that you have to do it to get the body back the way it used to be! What a pain!
I am so proud of you, Julie! You are really doing well and just may become MY inspiriation! Way to go!

Love the tomato plants! Ours are almost 6ft. tall now. I'm thinking tomatoes are going to be this years zucchini... And that's not a bad thing! haha

I don't work out. I do walk on a semi-regular basis with a neighbor. If she is unavailable, well, I don't even walk because I have to have someone to talk to!

I'm with you on the exercise thing, I HATE it! But I guess I'll never lose the weight without doing it, which totally bites the big one... :o(
Congrats on hitting the 20 lbs. mark, that's awesome!!!!!

Okay, I'm the odd ball.I LOVE to workout. I get such the adrenaline rush from the endorphines. I've recently taken to running although I once was hell bent on NEVER doing this :). I even walked a 1/2 marathon.

Just remember that weight training will help you lose more weight than just cardio alone. I did a split routine along with just 30 minutes of cardio 3 days a week.

My routine:
Mondays - Back/Biceps
Tuesdays - Chest/Triceps
Wed - cardio / Abs
Thursday - Legs/Shoulders
Friday - cardio
Saturday - OFF
Sunday 0 cardio

You lift 3 sets of weights heavy enough so that the last rep is really tough - moving up a weight each set for that muscle group.
For example, for biceps:

10lbs - set of 12
12lbs - set of 10
15lbs - set of 8

You can combine cardio on the weight days but I spreaded mine out so that I was only working out 30 minutes a day.

I was down 15lbs in just 3 months doing this! Muscle continues to burn in your sleep vs cardio that just burns calories during the workout itself.

Way to go, Julie...gosh, girl...you are doing SOOO good.
I walk a mile every day but I am going to join the LifeStyle center at the hospital..great work out place there. Hubby goes 3 days a week but I am going every day. I absolutely HATE HATE HATE excerise!
Just hate it's guts but I need it. I have PAD so i need to keep moving to improve circulation in my legs...
Hang in there and you'll find a good workout that will help you a lot, I think...

Sheesh. You're doing great without exercise!

Think what will happen when you get on with that?

I've got to start moving, too.

I am hot and cold on the workouts. Not much in between. Before I had so many knee injuries, I used to love playing racquetball several days a week, plus weight lifting. I don't like to run, and jogging is too hard on my knees. I am hoping to get those taken care of before the end of the year so I can get back to racquetball. That is FUN! Anyway, I did join a gym two months ago, and I haven't been much. But I think about it. A lot.

So, thinking about it A LOT doesn't work?

Lose an Olsen! Ha
I find watching those silly soaps with the wee thin girls on them as I huff away on the treadmill keeps me going just a little longer!

I do work out. I signed up for boot camp at the local rec plex. It's pricey and I have to drag my butt out of bed every morning at 5:30 - but I love it and will be sad to see it end this week. I have taken up running, because let's face it - how many serious runners do you see that are f.a.t.?! And when I run, I imagine the flab just jiggling right off me. :) I couldn't run from here to the fridge before without getting winded. Now, I can run 4 miles. Yes, in one outing! :) I'm hooked!

I exercise regularly. I don't love it but I don't hate it either. I read or watch TV while doing cardio exercises. During strength exercises.

I agree with you. Strength exercises are necessary but cardio exercises are when you will lose most weight.
