Bye bye, 2006 Chrysler 300 SRT.
Yesterday I turned my leased vehicle in. Finally.
After 39 months, I am free.
Don't get me wrong, I loved this car.
It was sweet.
It had everything you could ever want in a vehicle and then some.
But it came with a hefty price tag....and not just financially.
It's a long story and one that I don't see any reason to recite the gory details here, but suffice it to say that the decision to lease this car three years ago wasn't the best decision I ever made.
At the time I let emotion cloud my judgment. And I put trust where trust had already been irreparably broken, thinking that I would not get burned again.
Boy was I wrong.
Oh well, the end result was good. The Chrysler people completely overlooked the scratches by the door handle, the spot on the back bumper where somebody hit my car with a shopping cart, the completely bald rear tire (at $350 each I was not going to replace it, just to turn it in), and the chip in the windshield where a rock hit it....three weeks after I'd had the entire windshield replaced after a rock hit that one.
They marked the car as completely unblemished, so all I will owe now is about $200 in over-mileage fees.
Yay!
It was weird to get a little misty, driving the car for the last time to the dealership. That car has been a blessing and a curse from day one. It was the true bane of my existence for the last 15 months that I've been paying that $702 lease payment by myself. I endured plenty of fights and drama over that car the last three years, but I also really, really loved driving it.
And now it's gone, and all that remains is my license plate.
Nice, eh?
Bye Bye, Chrysler 300 SRT. You were a great car, but I'm glad we have reached the end of an error.

Oh yes, it looks like a FUN car! But $702/mo. is a real choker. When I got in a car accident almost two years ago now, losing my beloved Solara was hard on me too, so I get the teariness. I got all nostalgic about mine and all the good times I had in it.
If I remember right, you have replaced this car with a cute little new one, right? You should probably do a road trip to Central Texas in it. We got room!
I felt the same way years ago when I turned in my leased Grand Caravan. It was the perfect vehicle for me at the time, but the payments killed me.
letting go is hard when you've been attached for so long but it's also pretty cool b/c better things are on the way. I love you pic of the woman about to shoot the computer.

Joe surprised me the other day when he said that I have the best looking EIGHT YEAR OLD CAR on the road. EIGHT YEARS? It's nothing ritzy, but it's stayed clean, blemish free (I would cry over a ding)and is paid for. $702 a month and you could own a car in 3 years, but not a champagne car on a beer budget.

My mouth hit the floor when you admitted the $702 lease payment. You must feel like a weight has been lifted from your shoulders! I say sit back and relax with a bottle of wine tonight and curl up with a good book. Think of the vacation fund you're going to make from saving some of that money! :)
Hmmmm.. $702 car payment,fussing over dings, scratches and a bad tire AND over mileage costs? Someone remind me exactly what the "benefit" of leasing is? Your 300 was a beautiful car, but glad for you that you've turned that page!

I tried the leasing thing and won't do it again. I do like your new car, though. I started to say that it is 'A Man Car' use to cruse around looking for a man. But you don't need that kind of car. You are enough on your own. Enjoy the car, though.
"The end of an error" = very appropriate. It's not a bad thing to grieve a bit, before moving on and forming a beautiful friendship with that great new car.

I edited the post to refer back to the end of December when I posted what my new car was. I got it on my son's birthday. LOL It's a 2010 Nissan Altima.

It was a nice car indeed. But sad to say you have to let it go or it's gonna choke you financially! Anyway, that Nissan Altima you've bought to replace your old car is simply fantastic! It's worth all the guilt.. ;)

We got this car as an upgrade when we rented a small car to drive to our wedding destination. When we saw it we laughed and laughed. It's huge!!! And we had to drive it all over small windy roads.
I cannot believe how much the lease was. Certainly it wasn't (nor is any car) worth that much!
I understand....felt the same way when I got rid of my Corvette after the umpteenth speediing ticket -- remember that? The judge let me go when she realized I had traded it in on a LeBaron (I was reading the manual in court)! She said if I was willing to make that kind of trade, I must be innocent!! That car just said, "I am in a fast car and therefore, I must be going fast. Please write me up!" And let's not even talk about the monthly nut -- no more leases and no more NEW, strictly used for me. We all learn the car thing the hard way it seems....

I would never lease a car. But, one does whatever works best for them. I believe you got your money's worth out of the older one. You new one reminds of the other one.
