I'm getting annoyed which is never a good thing

I'm getting a lot of comments recently.

Just none I will publish.

They are all anonymous and either written in some ridiculous language or are advertisements for something or some other bullshit.

What's with the rash of these things all of a sudden?

I'm contemplating no longer allowing anonymous comments, at least for awhile until the spammers take me off their lists.

Unfortunately, I have a few people who do comment anonymously like my friends Jill, Cassie, "E", Cheri, and some others. I hate to prohibit you guys from leaving me comments but I don't know what else to do at this point.

I can ignore the spam but every time I reject one it pisses me off.

I know Chrissy's blog got hacked last week and I wonder if that's how?

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?

I didn't want to, but I had to block anonymous comments. I was spending too much time every day cleaning up spam in my comments. I haven't gotten any spam since I did it. I'll be interested to see how others are combating this issue.

yes, I would block them...I have heard of people getting hacked and that is how they got in....
your friends just need to give themselves a code name and keep commenting.

Just suggest to your friends that they create profiles to leave comments ... wouldn't that work?

Julie, I have never had that happen to me, and I get a lot of comments.

You can probably eliminate that with the comment filter that is available, just set it to make the commenter enter the letters in order to process the comments. It's easy and it should stop the shitty things.

These anonymous things are done by computers, hundreds at a time. I don't know where or how they get your url, but if you use the word verification the computer cannot work. I had it, people complained, I took it off, eat up with spam. Word verification is going back on.

Yeah, I had to start blocking anonymous comments too. Now, occasionally I do get some anonymous comments, but they're not spam. I don't know how that's happening, but I'm happy it's worked out this way.

Wow, that's terrible! I don't even think I know HOW to block anonymous comments! Guess I better learn...thanks for the heads up!!

I was having that same problem. Then I decided to enable captcha and they stopped. I know a lot of people hate captchas but I was tired of all the porn comments.

UGh I'd block them (sorry friends). I just don't understand people sometimes. Ignorance.

I've never had any problem with comments. It turns out my virus came from a Google countdown widget. It took FOREVER to try to get it off. No more "fun" widgets for me.

Have you installed anything new lately?

I do get them every now and then but not often. It's annoying.

No idea, but I've been getting a lot as well. I think the people with nothing better to do are having a looong winter and a lot of time on their hands.

Me too! But I just laugh and delete them... I get a lot of asian lettering... Just before deleting about 6 of them the other day, I showed them to my husband and said, "Look how popular I am in Japan"! and he believed me! LOL...

I tried signing up for an account but I must have been doing something wrong because I could get one. But I can find another way to contact you if you close this.

Word verification and/or blocking anonymous comments should work. I block anonymous comments for a variety of reasons and I don't get any spam. I hope I did not just jinx myself.

What happens when someone hacks into a blog?

Anonymous comments seem to be the culprit. Turn those off and you will see improvement. What a bother though :(

As Coffeypot said, most are done by computer robots and once your blog is indexed by the search engines (which can take time, which may be why this hasn't happened until now) you will get slammed with these from now on. Either modify all your comments, disallow anonymous or switch to wordpress which automatically filters them out for you!!

I haven't been spammed lately, but last week my blog got hit with a virus that wouldn't even let me see my blog. It redirected me to some crap right away. On Blogger's advice I had to delete all third-party content. They said that's where a lot of the garbage comes from.

We changed Kacklin to no anon comments and I have not had any since. I used to have the word veridication too but it didnt seem to do any good. The only thing I have on mine is your google account or an Open ID. That is all. I have not gotten any of the crap since.

I get those once in a while. I do block anonymous comments but I still get them. They will just put in a weird name with a bunch of symbols. But I have only had one or two.

Blocking is a good idea...if only we could block in real life!

I had to block anonymous comments not because of spam, but because of trolls spreading their nasty venom. Too bad spammers and people without a life have to ruin it for all.
