Is this thing loaded?

Watch out folks, I'm armed and dangerous.

That's right, I'm packing heat.

OK not really, at least not *yet*. But last night was the first of four NRA gun classes I'm taking to get my conceal carry license.

Why, you might ask, do I feel the need to carry a gun?

I don't. LOL

My boss wanted to take the class and didn't want to take it by himself so he paid for me to go as well.

I love shooting though, and I'm not bad at it.

Monday night is our class at the gun range, and I'm so excited!

Thing is, I've always been a little afraid of guns. My ex always had them at the house and he took me shooting several times, but I've always worried about it going off accidentally and hurting or killing me someone, so I feel better learning the best way to handle them, clean them, and de-cock it if I need to (I just love saying de-cock. It sounds so....funny. LOL).

They say knowledge is power, so knowing what to do with that thing is good.

I'm gonna feel pretty powerful with a .38 in my hands next week.

How many of you like to shoot? Tell me your stories....

You would have laughed your ass off at Eddie and I in the woods behind the campground last summer shooting our new shotgun and checking out my old Sig Sauer (sp?)-- the shotgun was great, but the sig needed some cleaning and new springs on the cartridges. Seems that when you keep bullets in them over a long period of time, the springs wear out. The owner had given us permission, but the manager freaked out!! I took a class with Nik years ago and was so glad I did -- I am not afraid of them and know how to handle them and in today's world, that is a good thing!

I've always wanted to but neither my dad nor my husband has cooperated by teaching me. My mom has a permit to carry. Don't know why other than her husband is kind of paranoid about stuff.

Well I don't know. I have only held a gun once, have a very healthy fear of them myself, but I think I would really love to go to a shooting range and shoot one. I've tried to talk to the hubby about it a couple of times, but much like when I asked him if he was interested in a threesome, he's afraid he's being set up, so he's not talking.

I am a big chicken and don't like guns..well not sure if I don't like them...maybe I don't understand them, a sit down dinner might help, good conversation. I like to be open minded about things and not to judge before I get all the facts...you never know where life will lead you.

I have a shotgun that I like to shoot. It was my GREAT-grandma's so it's older than I am. LOL

And I love shooting skeet and hitting more than my hubby. That pisses him off.

I laughed so hard when I read the "de-cock" comment. I was talking with my mobile phone rep. I had to read him your blog. He laughed his butt off too. Geesch, you are spreading joy everywhere today!

My grandfather taught me how to handle a gun many years ago. I also took classes through the local sheriff years ago too. I used to skeet shoot quite regularly. I never took the conceal carry class - but have always wanted to, just for my own additional knowledge. I have a rifle, shotgun and a hand gun of my own. But I also inherited (and kept) my grandfather's collection. All have individual locks on them and are locked away in a cabinet for safety!

Are those 44's in your hand or are you just glad to see me? That is a very smart thing to do and getting a carring permit for any single woman is a great ideal. Have fun!

I'm not fond of weapons but I do know how to shoot. In my younger days, I even went hunting (but never killed anything...just like saying that I "went hunting").

If I have to use it, I know how.

I want to hear about your shooting range experience. That sounds like fun!!

That is not a bad idea learning to handle a gun. The way things are now, you cannot be too careful. I have a fear of them, so I guess I would just tell do what you want and get on your way. Be careful and use your training safely.

Dad was a cop. I am married to a soldier, (retired) . I got a Walther PPK for Mother's Day last year, and also have a shotgun (12 gauge), a 357, a Glock, okay, my husband is a gun nut. We go to the range and shoot! (For protection, I have two big mean ugly dogs. The guns are for fun!) Enjoy!
