I'd like to retire early. Say...tomorrow.
I love having a long weekend, but I sure hate going back to work.
Don't get me wrong, I love my job. I have a great boss who makes going to work every day enjoyable, for the most part. I can dress casually, nobody cares if I'm on time or not, and I don't have anybody breathing over my shoulder.
But I'm tired of not being well off!
You know what I mean? I don't need millions...I really don't. I'm not that greedy. I'd just like to have enough money to pay off my bills and live comfortably.
And only work if I felt like it.
I suppose it would help my odds in the lottery if I actually bought a ticket. Let's face it, that purchase would increase my odds of winning 100%! I just never think about doing it.
Of course I could also make it my mission in life to make sure my next husband is financially hung. That would be nice.
Truth is, in this economy I really am grateful to have a job. I work for a very high end interior design firm, and we are a luxury item. Fortunately, our clients like luxury and our business has done surprisingly well this year. So don't get me wrong, I am very lucky to have an income, and I do not take it for granted.
What would I do with millions in lottery winnings, anyway?
(I have a list, just in case it ever happens!)
It's kind of nice to fantasize about it though, isn't it? I would, of course, share it with my family and friends. I doubt that I'd buy a huge house or anything like that. Although I imagine something on the beach would get purchased quickly! I'd do a lot of traveling, for sure. (Dar, when it happens, I'm taking us around the world!) I wouldn't be one of those winners who blow through all of their money and then is bankrupt 2 years later. I'd definitely make sure it lasted for the rest of my life, and hopefully Jordan's too.
So tell me, what would you do with your winning lottery ticket?

My wife buys lottery tickets but they frighten me. A million would not be too bad. But when the Powerball ticket is around 50 million dollars...it would be so much work to handle that kind of power (no longer money, but power)in a responsible stewardship manner! I'd have to go back to school for financial management, develop some kind of trust or non-profit granting entity to put the money back into meaningful causes while watching out for a thousand new "best friends" who want to help me use it. Such a challenge. I'm not sure I'm up for it. Fortunately, however, we haven't won it yet. Everytime my wife checks the numbers and they don't match, I cheer and she gives me a sour look.
I have a good job. I am very lucky to have a job, and it is not getting better they are trying to cut cut cut....It has me worried.
I would definetly buy me a house, a car, and a car for my daughter. Oh yeah, and pay off that ONE student loan. I want comfort, I don't want celebrity.
B&B...thank you for keeping it real! Hubster and I also talk about playing the lottery, but never do. but, IF we did play and IF we did win... we both would keep our jobs (so nobody would be suspicious) we would take time off without pay and travel. We'd donate a sizeble amount and make certain our children and grandchildren were comfortable (not spoiled, college, a first car, comfortable). We do not want a larger house (our house is already too much for the two of us), no maids, no fancy cars or yachts, perhaps a cabin in the mountains or a house at Cape Cod...however, I would pay for someone to put fresh sheets on my bed every single day. Simple pleasures!
Great Monday post!
Make it a good week, Julie!

I would buy a little interest in oh maybe a race team or track! I would hire someone to take care of the cottages, and take off and go to ALL the Nascar Races and have a great big ole RV to travel around in! Hell with the lottery thats my plan for when I win big on Deal or No Deal!!!

AFTER I hired a reputable CPA and invested the majority of it... you're going to laugh at this part... I'd buy every house for sale in the historic district we live and renovate those suckers to they're preserved forever. Then, I'd sell them, with strict covenants, to persons who really want an historic home.
Oh, I'd also replace my very good but 16 year old car!

The first thing I would do is go on two week vacation and think about what I want to do with my money!! HA
I have an old co-worker who knew two people who won the Ohio lottery years ago. One was his ex-wife. She won 8 million and as of 2005 she was flat broke selling off her mansion to pay the bills. How do you run out of 8 million dollars????? The next person he knew was his pizza delivery guy (really, does this happen?). Apparently this guy did well with saving it, however every now and then he was caught with some really weird purchases, but none the less as of 2005 the guy was still rolling in the dough.
Oh and this old co-worker once told me that his grandmother played the same numbers every day. She got sick and decided she didn't want to play on a particular day, and of course the story goes that someone hit with the numbers she played. Interesting.
Get the ticket Jules!
I have thought about this a lot!! LOL This whole things depends on how much I actually win. If it is enough to live without working..this is my plan...First, I wouldn't tell very many people because when the world knows you have a lot more friends. Second, I am leaving Chicago and heading to Maui. Third, Eric feels that he would go and bartend in a resort because both of us being off is TOO much together time--LOL. Also he feels that just about everyone is happy when in Maui.
Quit working, immediately. I do love my job, but it's still a job and with this baby coming soon, I'd much prefer to just stay at home with her and get out of the house by volunteering and things. We'd buy a new house in a better school district in the next couple of years, too. And then just pay off DH's student loans. After that, we could live comfortably...I don't need anything extravagant! :)
I'm thinking of suing the lotter commision for not picking my numbers.
seriously the best I came was 5 of the 6 munbers right after the started the drawings in the 80's.The last number was 46 I had 45.so close and yet so far away.
Now for the reason I came for a visit today.I read what you said on AIRMANMOM's ABOUT THAT WEIRDO getting so much attension.and our Service men and Women get squat when they lay their lives down for us.
Oh, Julie, when I read the title of your post, I was thinking that my hubby is always saying we have to BUY a ticket before we have a chance to win...and then you said it, too. Haha..we never think of it, either.
Like one of the other commenters, I'd book a 2 week cruise and THINK about what I wanted to do with the rest...lol
'course, with 10 grandkids, ....that pretty much would take care of the rest of the monies.
Hey...go buy your sweet self a couple of tickets today...WHO KNOWS???
Pay off my bills, travel. Have a pumkin patch, Christmas Tree Farm, B&B and live happily ever after!
You know Jules, I got to thinking more...if you won, you should get a tattoo by that famous female tattoo artist you like. :-)
I would travel and pay for my kids educations without sweating bullets about trying to save for their college funds!
Oh, and I would have parties. Lots and lots of parties.
I have honestly never thought about this! Hmmm...
I think first I would have to hire that CPA someone was talking about. Then buy a big mattress and stuff it full of money! haha
Seriously, I would start a non-profit for Asperger's Syndrome after putting a ton away for my mother's old age and my own as well as my son. After that? I don't know...I do know that my child would never want for any therapy that he should have right now. And he would be able to dig for dinosaurs where-ever his heart desires.
Boy I would love to win the lottery too!! Wouldn't it be nice. Just to be able to live and not stress over a bill.
Hi, I really like your blog, and would like to include it in my diploma paper in Discourse Analysis. I would really appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes to take part in the research, so if you're interested please visit my blog.

I would surely visit my parents in NC and then, stay at a beach house for a few weeks and think things through. No hasty decisions! Then, I'd hire an accountant (a trustful) one that could help me make good sound financial decisions.
Then, I would go to China and then an African Safari.
We like to fantasize about winning the lottery about once a week and we DO occasionally buy tickets, so I guess we have as much a chance as the next person, which is probably about 1/8th of a quarter percent.
Same as you, just be comfortable, have enough to pay the bills. Keep this house, just make it bigger (nice big country wraparound porch, sunroom, fireplace...). Probably buy some property near a beach somewhere. But first things first - a financial advisor so if we ever work again it's because we CHOOSE to do so and not because we have to! And we would definitely share with family.
A girlfriend that I grew up with hit for $2 million in New Hampshire, probably 15 years ago now. They get a $55,000 check every summer. Nice annual supplement, huh? Last I heard, they live in Virginia now, and he still works as a commercial pilot.
I am like you, I dream about winning but I never buy a ticket. If by a miracle I did win though I would buy new flooring. I can't stand my carpet much longer!!!!!
Hmm, 1 Mio would entitle me for the E-Visa to the USA, the second Mio would make for a very happy life and some money to donate. Anything is POWER I wouldnt want.
Big hug.
P.S. Mabe I should start buying a ticket and not wait for the Green card lottery anymore
A few mill would be nice-- I don't need to win the "Mega" jackpot, just a small one would be me just fine :-)
Terrific post.
I haven't decided what I would do with my lottery winnings as yet. I have four sons so do I give them the money up front or dole it out, and how much? Until I can figure it out I won't be buying any tickets.
1.Call in sick every day to work until ticket verified.
2.Pay off all bills and house
3.Quit Job
4.Give house and non-personal contents to worthy individual
5.Move to NC
6.Then figure out what I want to do when I grow up!!!
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
